I just uploaded a couple of tracks from a new project I've been
working on called NO, I SEE
www.looppool.info/NO,I_SEE
One is called "March of the Thinboys"
and the other is called "Not Nobody, Not No How"
I'd be curious to know if you guys would consider them Power Noise and if not,
what you would call them stylistically. I'm enough of a newbie that I'm unsure of the
classifications.

Re: Curious what style you'd call these tracks
Wed, March 28, 2007 - 12:53 PMNot what I would consider power noise.
You could call the first one some sort of like ambient noise. The second one I might consider to be like...I dunno...some minimalist noise/electro? The third one is pretty close to normal old electro. Though I could hear them all as being good back bones for future works. -

Re: Curious what style you'd call these tracks
Wed, March 28, 2007 - 2:24 PMA DJ in our scene down here has sent me a bunch of things to listen to in the power noize movement.
From everything I can ascertain.............everything is distorted and it's all really rhythmically based with
very little melodic developement.
So I thought I'd give it a shot. What about these tracks, Billy is NOT power noize.........I'm so confused.
As an example, that first track most definitely has rhythm in it which I thought would preclude it from
being ambient noise...........is there some BPM cutoff that separates the genres. I'm a total newb
so I really don't know the answers so thanks for taking the time with this, I really appreciate it.
Also, just aesthetically, you said you could hear these all as being good back bones for future works
(and thank you for that comment). I specifically eschewed melodic or harmonic developement in them
(thinking I'd be genre specific).............how else would these be developed? More complexity with the noise?
More elements? I had thought of them as complete tracks so I'm somewhat at a loss. -

Re: Curious what style you'd call these tracks
Wed, March 28, 2007 - 5:14 PMI really hate the idea of trying to lump it all together, as everyone has their own styles in terms of these genres, but whateva. While, your tracks might have had certain...ingredients...i guess of "power noise" they just seemed to lack the power, the intensity of what i would consider powernoise. The Terrorfakt, Manufactura and Dulce Liquido sounds are more along the lines of what I'd call good power noise. So, if I could make a suggestion I'd say crunch it up and make it hurt. If that makes sense lol -

Re: Curious what style you'd call these tracks
Wed, March 28, 2007 - 7:59 PMcool, I really listened and the new Terrorfakt has no more distortion than these tracks but
it does have 'crunchier' distortion as you say. It also has less elements by a factor of two.
Essentially, the Teethgrinder record has really cruncy distored drum beats and not a lot more than that.
I like the sounds a lot but the record is a little boring to me...............just too samey after a while.
I guess that's what makes music, though....................one person's great love is another persons mild dislike.............lol.
I'll go check out Manufactura and Dulce Liquido next. Thanks for the recommendations.
Thanks for taking the time, Billy. Do you make tracks yourself? I'd love to hear them if so. -

Re: Curious what style you'd call these tracks
Sun, April 1, 2007 - 10:04 AMHey Billy,
Really nice show the other night. I loved C/A/T/s set.
Here's an older stab at it...........................I just think these tracks are noisy
as hell but not power noise from what I can ascertain.
the track is called Industrial Microvwave because I used it to score a lo fi video project I made
only shooting a Microwave oven spinning around.
www.looppool.info/NO,I_SEE
INDUSTRIAL MICROWAVE mastered and dithered
Nice seeing you as always the other evening. -

Re: Curious what style you'd call these tracks
Sun, April 1, 2007 - 3:31 PMCool! Thanks for the kind words regarding the show. I'm a big fan of Ben's (C/A/T) work on and off the stage (with Crunch Pod)
As for Industrial Microwave...I say yea, this is really moving in the right direction. I would probably try to keep the basic beat up and constant through the whole song and add other interesting bits of synth/perc over the top of it. But, Cool song!
See you monday! -

Re: Curious what style you'd call these tracks
Mon, April 2, 2007 - 3:31 AMThanks, I actually did that two years ago before I had even heard of the term power noize,
which brings up an interesting historical question.
How old is that term and who coined it? Does anyone know.
and...................When does C/A/T's new CD drop? I really want to buy it. -

Re: Curious what style you'd call these tracks
Tue, April 3, 2007 - 9:14 AMI've heard that Noisex orginally coined the term, but I think in general power noise go way way back. Guys like P.A.L have been making these sorts of songs for ages (atleast a decade that I can think of).
As for C/A/T's new cd "Point Of No Return" it should be out on crunch pod in the middle of june I believe. I think it will be a big step for them.
I really enjoyed the show last night, seriously the most "musicianship" i've seen at a show in awhile. Very impressive. The Royal Dead were great as well a very fun band with a really enjoyable style. They should come back to the area and bring friends ;-)
If you're free wednesday a really cool band named Insect will be playing at the Blank club in downtown sj. Highly recommended.
